DANUBEPARKS participating in international conferences

During September and October, DANUBEPARKS project members have participated in several conferences, to further promote the ideas and goals of the Network of Danube Protected Areas, and to strengthen the cooperation with international experts, organizations and projects.

NATREG is the second ETC-SEE project, where Protected Areas cooperate to improve their management. Magdalena Wagner (DANUBEPARKS Project Assistant) has been at the NATREG Initial Conference (Sept. 16th-17th) to present the DANUBEPARKS activities.

In Vienna, a pilot workshop for the cooperation of Danube projects within the ETC Programmes took place on September 29th-29th, where Carl Manzano (DANUBEPARKS Spokesman) and Georg Frank (DANUBEPARKS Project Manager) participated, presented the DANUBEPARKS project and were involved in the discussions about the future structure of ETC programmes.

Forestry experts of BROZ, State Nature Conservancy Slovakia, Donau-Auen National Park, Duna-Ipoly National Park and Duna-Drava National Park participated in a Forestry Workshop organized by a Hungarian NGO on October 14th in Szekszed. Mira Ruda (BROZ) and Georg Frank (Donau-Auen National Park) held a presentation about the plan of DANUBEPARKS to elaborate forestry guidelines for Protected Areas along the Danube.

At the occasion of this workshop, also a radio interview was given by Pal Kezdy (Duna-Drava National Park) and Georg Frank for MR1 Kossuth Radio.

The ETC-SEE Programme organized the SEE Annual Conference in Sarajevo, where DANUBEPARKS was represented by Magdalena Wagner (Donau-Auen National Park). The conference gave a broader view onto the goals that the EU wants to achieve with the ETC-SEE Programme. DANUBEPARKS was presented there with an information booth.

On October 19th, Georg Frank gave a presentation on ornithological aspects of the DANUBEPARKS activities to the Austrian ornithological community, who are partly also involved into monitoring activities.
