DANUBEPARKS was invited by Lycée français Anna de Noailles to be part of a solidarity project related to the announcement of the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 on the topic "Sport & Nature".
A group of 32 high school students from Bucarest will cycle 500 km along the Danube River for 4 days, in the first week of April to reach Belgrade. During this trip, two DANUBEPARKS Protected Areas will be visited by students: Comana Nature Park in Romania and Djerdap National Park in Serbia.
Each kilometer the kids will ride will be compensated by sponsors of this activity and the plan is to invest part of donations to DANUBEPARKS to implement nature restoration and conservation activities in our Protected Areas.
This activity is implemented in the framework of the Year of Sport at the AEFE (The Agency for French Education Abroad) and on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Nearly 300 students from French high schools will take turns over nearly 4,000 kilometers to carry the flag of the AEFE Génération 2024 from Athens to Paris with the logos of the 12 participating organizations. These organisations have the choice to use any sustainable means of transport. They can travel: on foot, by bike, boat, bus, train, etc.
Airplane transport is prohibited as a means of transport within the framework of this event for obvious reasons of costs, carbon footprint, and inconsistency with the very philosophy of the concept.
Students from the "Sport & Nature" group will participate in this relay from April 1 to April 5, 2024 and if you want to follow their activities you can do it HERE.
Good luck everyone!
