Club Cormorant and Little-ringed Plover

Persina Nature Park in Bulgaria works with children from the region in the so-called "Club Cormorant" since several years. At the occasion of the Joint Danube Survey, where DANUBEPARKS contributed with the Danube-wide Monitoring of Little-ringed Plover and Sand Martin, they organized a special excursion for the children of the club and their parents.

About 50 people gathered in the morning of September 21st to hear about the Danube-wide research activities from three different stakeholders in Bulgaria: The Persina Nature Park presented the DANUBEPARKS Network, the Danube River Basin Directorate of Pleven told about the goals of the Joint Danube Survey, and the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds introduced Little-ringed Plover and Sand Martin to the guests.

Due to the good weather, these lectures could be held directly at the "home of Little-ringed Plover", as the excursion was called: At the sand bank just in front of the Persina Nature Parks visitor center in Belene. Later on, a boat trip took the participants around the islands of the Nature Park, where they could discover the wealth of Bulgarian nature: Many sand and gravel banks still exist there and need our protection!
