From 20 to 24 April 2026, the Annual Meeting of the DANUBE4all project, funded under the Horizon Europe programme, brought together international experts and practitioners in Budapest, Hungary.
The meeting was hosted by Budapest University of Technology and Economics and gathered partners from across Europe working on innovative approaches to river and floodplain restoration in the Danube River Basin. The focus of the meeting was on presentation of the updates from all project Work Packages, aiming to develop the Danube Basin Restoration Action Plan.
A key highlight of the programme was a field trip to one of the DANUBE4all Demonstration Sites near Sződliget, located within the Duna-Ipoly National Park Directorate. The site showcases ecological groyne adaptation measures implemented by DANUBEPARKS on two river groynes. Aim of this action is to improve river dynamics and habitat conditions at this section of the Danube.
This site visit was excelent opportunity for our partners to explore the site and gain insight into how planned interventions will contribute to restoring natural processes, enhancing biodiversity and increasing the resilience of river ecosystems. Implementation is expected to begin very soon, once we have 1,5 meters higher water level, necessary for barge and excavation equipment to access the groynes.
At the end we would like to thank the Duna-Ipoly National Park Directorate, whose contribution was essential for the successful implementation of this part of the field trip!
