International Nature Protection Course for Rangers

During the second part of the DANUBEPARKS Joint Ranger Training, the main focus was put on transboundary cooperation for nature protection. Fourteen rangers from five Protected Areas along the Danube spent nine days together.

The training started off with workshops in the youth camp Eckartsau (Donau-Auen National Park), where the options for and benefits of international cooperation were discussed with experts such as Phil Weller (ICPDR), Andreas Beckmann (WWF Danube Carpathian Programme) or Matthias Jurek (UNEP) as well as Carl Manzano, Manfred Rosenberger and Barbara Mertin from the Donau-Auen National Park.

The last five days then focused on practical experience exchange: Excursions in the Donau-Auen National Park (Austria), the Dunajske Lúhy Landscape Protected Area (Slovakia), the Duna-Ipoly National Park (Hungary) and Gornje Podunavlje Special Nature Reserve (Serbia) gave insights into nature management, restoration activities, visitor infrastructure and interpretation.

The training was a big success, spreading the DANUBEPARKS Network idea to more people within the partner Protected Areas, sparking off new cooperation ideas and strengthening the team spirit along Europes most International River!
