In the beginning of December, two workshops of the DANUBEPARKS Network took place.
The first one was held in Ingolstadt by our german partners from the Danube Floodplain Forest between Neuburg and Ingolstadt, and dealt with river revitalization. It was the last workshop used for the finalization of two strategic papers: One will outline the strategic position of DANUBEPARKS on the issue of conservation and navigation, the other will comprise past experiences and lessons learnt from river revitalization projects. Both papers will be published in mid 2011 and then also be available on the website.
The second workshop in Orth/Donau (Donau-Auen National Park) was the starting point for the development of the Sturgeon Protection Project of the Network of Protected Areas. It included not only representatives of the Network partners, but also Sturgeon experts from all over Europe and the USA. The basic decisions on what topics to focus on were decided and responsibilities divided. Currently, the various partners in the project are developing the detailed ideas and getting in touch with other organizations also dealing with Sturgeon protection. As the deadline for submission of the project is mid July 2011, work will be intensely focused on this issue within the upcoming months.
