Wetland and Grassland Restoration in Duna-Drava National Park

Inside the Danube-Drava National Park, a small scale grassland restoration close to DunaszekcsĊ‘ village has been implemented. Some temporary reservoirs have been made for draining the dredged material from the Danube. These reservoirs had been out of use for several years, and the alien invasive species started to colonise this area.

The aim of the restoration was to level the ground, removing the dykes to crate a flat surface where the alien species could be controlled by regular mowing. During the works about 3000 m3 of sand and soil had been transported. The National Park hopes that natural grassland will be formed in this area within a few years.
