Winner of the Natura 2000 Award 2015!

This pan-European Award recognises excellence in the management of Natura 2000 sites and conservation achievements, showcasing the added value for local economies, and increasing public awareness of Europe's valuable natural heritage. On 21st May, DANUBEPARKS was announced as winner of the Natura 2000 award 2015!

In the frame of the big ceremony at the European Commission headquarter, Commissioner Mr. Karmenu Vella handed over the trophy to DANUBEPARKS for the outstanding achievements for cross-border networking and cooperation for Natura 2000 in the last years. Natura 2000 is the European Network to protect and to develop more than 27.000 sites of our European natural heritage. DANUBEPARKS was selected out of around 100 applications in 5 categories by a high-level international jury.

DANUBEPARKS – The Danube River Network of Protected Areas is a best practice project for the active cooperation of Protected Areas and the fruitful and inspiring working together of people from numerous countries, so the argumentation and appreciation by the expert jury.

“Definitely, this is a big recognition for our joint work in the past and a motivation to continue and further intensify our joint work for Danube Protected Areas and Natura 2000 sites”, underlines DANUBEPARKS President Carl Manzano.

Beside the strong recognition as most effective, innovative and sustainable initiative for Nature 2000 and nature conservation in Europe in the category “„Cross-border Cooperation and Networking“, DANUBEPARKS receive also a money prize and support for the organization of a local Natura 2000 event.
