Within the framework of the Danube WILDisland RRI pilot measures and the celebration of World Wetlands Day (2 February 2026), our member Public Enterprise “Vojvodinašume”, Forest Estate Sombor, as the manager of the Special Nature Reserve Gornje Podunavlje, organised 13 educational and interactive workshops for third-grade pupils from the primary schools “Dositej Obradović” and “Avram Mrazović” in Sombor and “Žarko Zrenjanin” in Apatin.
The activities covered a total of 13 third-grade classes and involved more than 300 participants.
The educational programme was delivered through one-hour workshops entitled “Wetlands of the Special Nature Reserve ‘Gornje Podunavlje’ – Home for Many, Benefit for All”, designed to raise children’s awareness about the importance of wetlands and nature conservation.
Through interactive learning methods, games, teamwork, and practical tasks, pupils were introduced to characteristic plant and animal species, bird sounds, food chains, natural processes, and the role of humans in protecting nature.
The workshops concluded with joint discussions and the distribution of educational materials, further encouraging children’s interest in environmental protection and the sustainable management of natural resources.
This activity contributed to the objectives of the Danube WILDisland project by strengthening awareness among younger generations about the importance of wetland conservation and sustainable natural resource management in the Danube region.
